Meet the friendly staff at Lafferty Animal Clinic!
Dr. Lafferty grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City where he attended the prestigious Stuyvesant High School. His family moved to the South and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Cum Laude in Zoology from the University of Georgia in 1976. Dr. Lafferty then went onto veterinary school at UGA and graduated in 1981. For almost 40 years Dr. Lafferty has taken care of the pets of the North Fulton area. He is interested in all aspects of veterinary medicine and loves challenging cases. Dr. Lafferty enjoys reading, cycling and traveling with his wife Brenda. Gertrude, his rambunctious Bulldog, comes to work each day, all the while LAC is being looked after by his 3 clinic cats, Leah, Mama, and Shu Shu.
Dr. Bowes was born in New York and spent most of his young childhood in Connecticut. Michael knew he wanted to work with animals at a young age; as a kid, he was fascinated with nature and all of the creatures it held.
In addition to growing up with cats, dogs and guinea pigs, Michael was always bringing home temporary visitors that he found in the woods behind his house. Much to his mother’s dismay, frogs, salamanders, turtles and snakes were regular guests at the Bowes household.
Michael moved to Georgia when he was twelve and finished his grade school in Alpharetta. Before he knew it, becoming a veterinarian had faded to a childhood dream. It wasn’t until he was a semester away from obtaining his business degree that the fog cleared, and he remembered what he really wanted to do with his life.
After a long journey comprised of science classes, shadowing under Dr. Lafferty and veterinary school itself, that once childhood dream finally became a reality.
Dr. Bowes obtained his veterinary degree from UGA in 2017. Just a few days after graduation, he started working at Lafferty Animal Clinic as a veterinarian. While Dr. Bowes enjoys the wide variety of cases that general practice provides, he has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology and neurology. In his spare time, Dr. Bowes enjoys spending time with his two furry children, a mixed breed dog named Jackson, and Hermes, his Bengal cat.
Meredith graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors degree in Social Work in 2008. However, her love for animals brought her into the veterinary field. She started working at Lafferty Animal Clinic in 2010 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2017.
Her favorite parts of her job are dental procedures, assisting in surgeries, and interacting with clients and their pets.
At home, Meredith and her husband Robby have two dogs - Casey and Bo, 4 cats – Jax, Opie, Raleigh, and Chomper (yep, he likes to bite), and a rabbit named Jasper. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, running, and spending time with her family.
Julie grew up traveling the country with her family as a military brat. She has since settled down in the Johns Creek area with her husband of 20+ years and her two beautiful daughters. At home she has 2 large Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Indie and Moose), 2 cats (Rupert and Polly), a Fire Bellied Toad, and an ancient Beta Fish.
Julie joined the Lafferty Animal Clinic team in 2004. Some of her responsibilities include assisting the doctors with appointments and surgeries, providing client and patient care, inventory maintenance, ordering, scheduling, and overseeing daily clinical operations. Outside of work, Julie enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking, and tending to her Girl Scout Troop of 7+ years.
Yailin has been working at Lafferty Animal Clinic since March of 2018. She is a pre-veterinary student at Gwinnett Technical College and is studying to become a veterinarian. Yailin has been a pet sitter since the age of 14 and has her own pet sitting business. She can speak both English and Spanish.
Yailin’s quote that she lives by is, “Go with the flow”. She says, “you never know what the day will give you, always keep your head up and a smile on your face”.
Outside of LAC, Yailin enjoys spending time with family and always looking to stay busy. She likes to be active, particularly inside the gym or hiking outdoors. At home, Yailin has 3 dogs: Charlotte a Lab/Greyhound mix, Benji a Yorkie/Poodle mix, and Luna a Lab/Boxer mix. She also has four Danio Glowfish named Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Orange (yep… they are named after their colors), a Beta Fish named Buddha, and two Ghost Shrimp.
Kaitlyn has been bringing her pets to Dr. Lafferty’s since she was a child. She graduated from Georgia State University in 2018 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a minor in Art Studio. She plans to get her Masters in Clinical Psychology, but in the meantime she loves working with animals and being part of the team at LAC.
Jacob was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, but moved to Georgia when he was a teenager. He loves animals and Dad jokes. He has been working at LAC for about two and a half years, working part-time while attending Kennesaw State University, where he studies history. Jacob is in a band named Tax Evasion with his friend and co-worker, Louis. Jacob is a fan of sports like soccer and football. He enjoys nice poems and long walks on the beach.
Louis is a native Georgian, but is half American and half French. He has worked at LAC since August of 2016. Louis is a biology/pre-med major at Kennesaw State University (Go Owls!!!). In his free-time he likes to read books, play video games, enjoy nature, and play in a band with his best friend and co-worker, Jacob. Louis has one dog named Chipie. He enjoys hard rock music and his favorite band is the Foo Fighters.
Polleth has always had a love for all animals, which is why she enjoys working so much at the clinic. She is currently a senior in high school, and intends to further her education. She wants to pursue a job in the medical field. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, being active, and discovering new music. She currently has two dogs, BonBon a Chihuahua mix, and Capi, a very large Chihuahua. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Freda is a “jack of all trades”, who has loved animals all her life. A single mother of two, who splits her work time between Lafferty Animal Clinic and driving a special needs school bus for Fulton County. Being a team member at LAC is so rewarding and educational.
Zuzia, more commonly known as ‘The Zoozh’, is one of the newest additions to Lafferty Animal Clinic. The Zoozh is of Polish decent and speaks Polish fluently, with her parents growing up in Sopot, Poland before relocating to America. Currently a sophomore at Johns Creek High School, The Zoozh spends her extra time harrowing through the horrors of high school chemistry and dealing with ‘boy trouble’. The Zoozh just recently obtained her driver’s license; if you happen to see a minivan swerving through Johns Creek, the odds are good that that’s our Zoozh. Considering herself more of a dog person than a cat person, The Zoozh lives at home with her two yorkies, Rico and Teetoo.
Morgan is one of our newest team members here at Lafferty Animal Clinic. Morgan currently attends Blessed Trinity Catholic High School and aspires to continue her education in the medical field. At home, Morgan enjoys playing with her 6-year-old dog, Layla. Outside of work, Morgan participates in cheer, swim, and lacrosse.
Abigail is another new member to the LAC team. She is an avid painter and aspiring children’s illustrator, whose dream is to become a published children’s author. Outside of LAC she loves to cook and enjoys sculpting. Abby has 3 pets… a rescue mix named Hope, cat named Regal, and kitten named Clove.
